Our Journey

In 2022, we embraced a new lifestyle by transitioning from the busy urban life to the tranquility of a 33-acre homestead in Kiowa, Colorado. This change marked the beginning of a rewarding journey where we would reconnect with nature and cultivate our own food. Surrounded by rolling landscapes and mountain views, we found peace and purpose in farming, gardening, and embracing sustainable living practices.

The challenges of homesteading deepened our connection as a family, fostering a sense of community and self-sufficiency. Each day brought new experiences, whether making structural changes to the homestead, planting seeds in the garden, tending to animals, or enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.

Our hearts filled with gratitude as we discovered the joys of this slower-paced life, cherishing the simple pleasures that come with a close-knit bond to the land.

Farm Residents

At Blue Sky Homestead, our animals are the heart of our farm, adding entertainment, nourishment and joy to our daily lives.

Our diverse residents currently include a semi-gentle dairy cow, a very loving beef steer, three female dairy sheep, two draft-cross horses, a hodgepodge of poultry as well as honey bees.

Lilly, our livestock guardian dog, safeguards our flock of sheep while the chickens, ducks, and geese freely forage and explore the property during the day and return to the safety of their coops each evening.

Blue Sky Homestead's vision is a serene and idyllic retreat, situated in the midst of natural beauty. Our homestead strives to be a sustainable living space, harmoniously integrated with our environment, prioritizing eco-friendly practices and self-sufficiency. We seek a return to a simpler life, one that emphasizes living in step with nature. By re-learning and honoring the knowledge and skills passed down through generations, we seek to cultivate a deeper connection to the earth and its cycles.

Blue Sky Homestead will feature solar panels, wind harvesting, use of geo-thermal heat, organic gardens and responsible animal husbandry where care and respect for our animals are paramount. Our lifestyle emphasizes simplicity, mindfulness, and a deep connection to nature. We find joy in the tranquility it offers, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life, fostering a community that values creativity, collaboration, and the preservation of the natural world as we long for balance, peace, and the pursuit of a life less tethered to modern complexities.
